Upcoming Changes: Guangzhou Metro Adjustments for Canton Fair
Starting tomorrow, the Guangzhou Metro will undergo changes to accommodate the Canton Fair, including new schedules and additional services.
The bustling city of Guangzhou, known for its vibrant culture and historical significance, is set to host the 139th Canton Fair, a major international trade event. To ensure smooth transportation for the expected influx of visitors, the Guangzhou Metro will implement temporary traffic control measures and introduce special schedules. The Canton Fair, held at the Pazhou Canton Fair Complex, will be divided into three phases from April 15th to May 5th. This event is a significant highlight in Guangzhou's calendar, drawing attendees from around the world to showcase and explore a wide array of products and services.
During the fair, the Guangzhou Metro will introduce a dedicated schedule to enhance the efficiency of line operations. The metro lines 4 and 8, which serve the Pazhou area, will see increased frequency of trains during peak hours. For instance, the Line 8 will have an additional 3 to 4 trains during weekdays' morning and evening rush hours, and 6 extra trains during midday. On weekends, the midday and peak hours will see an increase of 6 and 10 trains, respectively. This adjustment aims to accommodate the higher passenger volume expected during the fair.
The Line 4 will also see enhancements with up to 47 trains running during weekdays and 38 during weekends, with additional trains during the midday hours. For the third phase of the fair, which coincides with the May Day holiday, the metro will operate on a holiday schedule.
The opening of the new Zigang station on Line 12 has further improved connectivity. Passengers can now easily transfer between Line 8 and Line 12, making it convenient for visitors to travel to and from various parts of the city. For those using the interchange at Pazhou station, there are special gates for transfers, and those with城际定期票或计次票 can use a single-code pass through the intercity Pazhou station.
The Guangzhou Metro has also prepared a 'Pazhou Station Transfer Guide' and a 'Canton Fair Travel Guide' to assist passengers. These guides are available at Pazhou and Xinhong East stations, ensuring that visitors can navigate the metro system with ease.
In terms of service hours, the Line 8 at Xinhong East station will operate from 6:14 am to 11:03 pm in the direction of Jiao Xin, and from 6:21 am to 11:52 pm in the direction of Wan Shengwei. At Pazhou station, the service hours are from 6:12 am to 11:03 pm in the direction of Jiao Xin, and from 6:23 am to 11:52 pm in the direction of Wan Shengwei.
The Canton Fair is not just an economic event; it's a cultural showcase of Guangzhou's dynamic city life. As visitors explore the fair, they can indulge in the city's rich culinary scene, which includes traditional dishes like dim sum, roast goose, and sweet rice balls. The fair also reflects Guangzhou's status as a hub for international trade and cultural exchange, making it a must-visit destination for those interested in understanding the city's vibrant pulse.
